Ongoing monthly Academy programs (bowling with Joe Dawes, batting with Nathan Reardon), a one-off deep video analysis, and 1-on-1 sessions with our head coaches or an FBU-approved coach. Why the four pillars matter

What breaks a young cricketer — and what our coaching does about it.

Most junior and club players are chasing pace or trying to score more consistently. Both problems trace back to the same four pillars. Ignore any one of them and the others eventually collapse under load. Every FBU option targets all four — they differ only in depth of contact.

Pillar
The fault we see
What it costs the athlete
How FBU fixes it
TechnicalThe action
Poor mechanics. Late arm, collapsed front side, misaligned run-up, no repeatable release. Copied from a hero, never coached from first principles.
Injury (stress reactions, lower-back load, shoulder). Inconsistency ball-to-ball. Locked-in ceiling on pace, swing and seam movement.
Video-marked Bowler ID. Monthly technical priorities. Coach video reviews on your own footage. Elite tiers get world-leading biomechanical breakdown, joint-by-joint against elite reference.
TacticalThe cricketer's brain
No plan, no read. Bowls or bats the same way whether it's the first over or the 40th. Can't set a batter up, or can't build an innings from a tricky start.
Wrong ball at the wrong time. Wickets missed. Games lost. Reputation as "raw" rather than "smart".
Match footage review + game-scenario drills. Coach-built plan-to-execute frameworks by format (Test / one-day / T20). Elite tiers get session-by-session tactical coaching.
PhysicalThe body
Under-conditioned or over-loaded. Poor posterior chain, weak trunk, no tracking of workload. Trains hard on Tuesday, bowls sore on Saturday.
Injury, forced weeks off, drop in pace across spells, "unavailable" listed next to their name at selection.
Personalised S&C plan built to a fast bowler's specific load profile. Elite tiers get workload monitoring inside the athlete portal, mobility programming, sprint and jump testing quarterly. ▸ See the assessment protocols →
NutritionPart of Physical
Under-fuelled or mis-fuelled. Skipping breakfast, no game-day plan, no hydration strategy. Living on rice and pasta with no recovery protein.
Slower recovery, higher injury rate, energy drop-off across long spells, stalled physical adaptation.
Personalised fuelling plan at Elite tier. Hydration protocols. Body-composition checks. Podiatry referral if the feet flag anything.
MentalThe pointy end
Doubt, no routine, no reset. Bowls or bats well in the nets, disappears under match pressure. Can't recover from a bad over or a dropped catch.
Can't execute the plan when it actually matters. No resilience across a long season. Confidence collapses at exactly the wrong moment.
Mental performance modules — pre-ball routine, pressure exposure, confidence anchors, post-mistake reset. Elite tiers include structured check-ins and quarterly mental review.

Not on the Academy? The 1-on-1 options are pay-as-you-go — great when you want a single, focused session or you're travelling into NCC Albion once every few months. The Full Video Analysis is designed as a one-off deep look. But if you're planning to work with us across a full season, the Academy tiers cost significantly less than the equivalent stack of stand-alone sessions.
The 12-month improvement journey

Where you'll be a year in. Quarter by quarter.

Value isn't just what you buy — it's what changes. Twelve months on the Academy System looks like this, mapped across the four pillars.

Quarter
Technical
Tactical + Mental
Physical + Nutrition
Q1Months 1–3 · Foundation
Baseline captured. Bowler / Batter ID recorded on video. Three technical priorities identified and drilled. Coach reviews already refining action.
Game plan started. Match footage reviewed, first tactical framework by format. Mental — pre-ball routine established.
Movement audit done. Mobility + posterior-chain baseline. S&C program written. Nutrition day-in-life logged, first tweaks applied (Elite).
Q2Months 4–6 · Build
Action holding under fatigue. Repeatable release visible in every session's footage. Second technical layer being coached.
Match awareness up. Reads situations faster. Written plan for common in-game scenarios. Pressure exposure drills bedded in.
Physical base solid. Sprint + jump numbers up from Q1. Workload monitoring stops the Tuesday-hard, Saturday-sore cycle.
Q3Months 7–9 · Elevate
Pace / power measurable. Second Bowler / Batter ID capture. Quantifiable delta vs Q1 in speed, seam movement, bat speed.
Executes plan under pressure. Match footage shows plan-A / plan-B decisions in real time. Post-mistake reset routines automatic.
Peak-season conditioning. Body handling full match load. Podiatry / nutrition dialled. Injury indicators trending down.
Q4Months 10–12 · Perform + plan year 2
Best cricket of the year. Third capture confirms trend. Annual technical report. Year-two priorities set.
Reliable under pressure. Coach can hand you the ball in the 40th over and know what you'll do. Mental routine bulletproof.
Off-season plan ready. Full annual review. Off-season block designed to peak for year two.
By month 12: most Academy athletes have a measurable Bowler / Batter ID improvement across every pillar — a speed increase (Elite: often 3–8 km/h), a cleaner action / bat swing on high-frame video, a written year-two plan, and — critically — fewer weeks lost to preventable injury. That's the compounding case for staying with the program rather than treating coaching as a one-off transaction.
